Early Noguchi IN-50 Coffee Table by Isamu Noguchi Walnut Base Second Generation

Sold Sold
  • Description
An early Noguchi IN50 coffee table with the original glass, originally purchased by first owner in 1970s. Walnut base with straight aluminum pin ( later pins has locking fins). Scratches on the glass, no chips.

Walnut base has been restored with oil and lacquer finish to add some protection. Some original wears still show on the frame.

The glass top has several scratches showing wears, no chips on the edges. All the scratches can be polished off per client request.

This table is guaranteed authentic by a number of defining characteristics:
1 ) the distinctive contour of the sculpted base, including the subtle concavity along the long axis of each piece so that light can be seen underneath the center, and that the top balances on two points of the downward pointing piece, not its entire length.
    2) solid aluminum pin with no locking fins compared to new examples
    4) distinctive swirl across the two pieces where they are joined - achieved by using the same pieces of wood.

This original Noguchi Table (IN50) balances delicacy with sturdy, solid walnut construction in an understated yet unforgettable icon. The signature interlocking wood base offers a fresh perspective from every angle while the thick glass-top is made to withstand everyday wear and tear. Designed in 1948 by sculptor Isamu Noguchi, this table is still coveted today because of its generous and playful curvaceous lines, which catch the eye and invite interaction.
