COFFEE TABLE BY ROGER CAPRON CERAMIC TABLE AU SOLEIL SUN MOTIF VALLAURIS C 1965
-
Description
Exceptional table composed colorful abstract ceramics on a steel structure covered in , one of which is a large radiant sun. This is the large edition and an iconic piece by Roger Capron, one of the greatest post war French Ceramicists. This image of the sun began to be seen early in Capron's career as symbolic of the sun of the south of France. It became more seen during the 1960's in this colorful ceramic image on coffee tables composed of several elements of tiles in various configurations. His abstract images were influent by the artists working in the south of France, especially Picasso. The frame of the table is unique and a different from the other frames used on his tables and makes it a few inches higher than his other tables. Most likely a custom order.
Please refer to a similar image appearing in 1965 in the monograph Roger Capron, Ceramiste by Pierre Staudenmeyer, editions Norma 2003 p 96.

Message from Seller:
Pavilion is the collective vision of Deborah Colman and Neil Kraus, both graduates of the master of fine arts program at the Art Institute of Chicago. From a longstanding interest in art and design, frequent buying trips to France and Italy have influenced the direction of the gallery to offer items that are not easily sourced in Chicago and United States. Postwar design has been the focus for 18 yrs and we also look forward to new design that crosses boundaries and dialogues as well to the past
