Description
Roger Capron Sho-Gun or Shogun model coffee table with ceramic tile top with beige brown enameled tiles on mahogany base and feet. Signed R Capron. The colors vary from table to table as a result of the temperature of the firing in the kiln. No chips or cracks to the tiles or faults with the wood base. This example lis the largest of the shogun tables.
See Roger Capron Céramiste by Pierre Staudenmeyer, Éditions Norma, Paris, 2003, p. 106 for the illustration of a similar table. The wood frame has a dark stain and is slightly lacquered. No imperfections in the tiles or the wood. Capron worked in Vallauris his entire career and his output was large and varied. Signed with a stamped impression of his signature. As Pavilion speicalizes in the work of artists and designers of France and Italy we love this table for its vibrant and happy quality celebrating the life of the south of France.

Pavilion is the collective vision of Deborah Colman and Neil Kraus, both graduates of the master of fine arts program at the Art Institute of Chicago. From a longstanding interest in art and design, frequent buying trips to France and Italy have influenced the direction of the gallery to offer items that are not easily sourced in Chicago and United States. Postwar design has been the focus for 18 yrs and we also look forward to new design that crosses boundaries and dialogues as well to the past
