German 18th century Rococo painted and gilt swan wine cooler
-
Description
The extraordinary wine-cooler in the form of a beautifully sculpted, gilt and polychromed Swan of impressive stature, makes certainly the conversation-piece of the party. The white painted swan's body set into a gilt base with a decorative open carved frieze, standing on four bold cabriole legs ending in paw-feet , the back of the swan's body is removable and reveals a tin-lined basin that can be filled with ice to hold several wine bottles. The whole whimsical concept and design of the Swan-Wine-Cooler alludes to the work of Jean François Cuvilliés A Belgian Architect and designer, who brought exuberance and style of Rococo from Paris to the southern parts of Germany / Bavaria.
