Art Deco 20th Century Streamlined Train Sculpture

Sold Sold
  • Description
This is a streamlined locomotive sculpture based on the design of the New York train 'The 20th Century Limited'. The 20th Century Limited was an express passenger train on the New York Central Railroad during the 1930's. It was an extremely stylish and luxurious way to travel at the time. One of the most picturesque routes traveled was north along the edge of the Hudson river. This very stylized sculpture was created by the artist Lee Duran in tribute to this very beautiful locomotive originally designed by Henry Dreyfuss in 1938. Lee's sculpture is made from aluminum and there were plans to make a limited edition of 25. Sadly the mold used disintegrated before the full run was completed and only around 22 were completed. This example was one of the first, it is number 4 and dated 1994. It is a really beautiful and striking Art Deco styled piece of sculpture.
