Early Historically Important Vintage Louis Vuitton Steamer Trunk
-
Description
A large vintage Louis Vuitton Steamer Trunk. Early production from turn of the century (after 1896 with the presence of the LV logo, and likely before 1910). From the descendants of James J. and Mary T. Hills. James Jerome Hill (1838-1916), was a Canadian-American railroad executive. He was the chief executive officer of a family of lines headed by the Great Northern Railway, which served a substantial area of the Upper Midwest, the northern Great Plains, and Pacific Northwest. Because of the size of this region and the economic dominance exerted by the Hill lines, Hill became known during his lifetime as "The Empire Builder".
This is a well used steamer trunk with worn patterned and LV canvas surface. It was printed with Serial number 125160 and labeled with Paris and London locations. It retains five inner wood and linen trays with various sizes and function: two large fitting shallow trays, one barrel tray, on square tray with fitting show boxes. Original hardware are mostly present. The bronze lock pad and handles on the sides are all impressed with LV trade mark and numbers. Hardware of inner trays are all marked. The two latches may have been replaced at some point as no marks was found on them. The trunk has deep patina and lots of wears throughout as evident in the photos. It is an authentic piece of history associated with an important family. For modern living, it can potentially serve as a substantial and glamorous coffee table.
To understand the condition of such old streamer trunk, please examine the photos before purchasing. -
