Michael van Beuren slat chair for Domus, Mexico, 1930s/40s

Price Upon Request
  • Description
A rare armchair by Michael van Beuren for Domus. The chair has a seating and backrest made of wood slats and rush windings on the frame.

This model was originally designed in 1937 for outdoor use at the bungalows of Hotel Los Flamingos in Acapulco, Mexico.

American-born, Bauhaus-trained Michael van Beuren (1911 - 2004) moved to Mexico in 1937, where he started designing and manufacturing furniture. His designs combined traditional Mexican influences with Modernist forms. Together with fellow Bauhaus-student Klaus Grabe, he started the 'Domus' company. After Grabe moved to the US in 1942, the name of the company changed to 'Van Beuren'.
