This plush and soft room size rug is warm in touch and tone throughout. A Turkish rug woven in the same design as the Oushak, probably circa 1940-60, it features a rich and earthy palette with a burnt-brick-brown ground color against olive-green spandrels and a large cold-light-blue border.
It is a strikingly modern piece with fresh colors and simplicity of form that melds so well with the austerity of the mid-century aesthetic, while having a bit more boldness than the standard Oushak form.
While the center of the rug is relatively devoid of excess decoration, the borders are simply exceptional with no less than six different pictorial borders plus stringer lines separating the edges from the ground.
We love the variety of motif chosen in the spandrels and central motif, all matched but with subtle variations from being hand-woven. It is hard to fathom how long this would have taken a weaver to produce, but the result is quite lovely.
Measurements: 184" L x 141 1/2" W

Spots of discoloration. A few spots of structure visibility, overall the pile remaining quite soft, thick and pliable. A fine estate rug that has been well maintained.
