James Lovera black with a blue lava glaze bowl, United States
-
Description
Beautiful James Lovera black with blue lava ceramic bowl, made by him in his studio in California. This piece is very unusual in its tall size which shows of the wonderful thick drip blue lava glaze on black matte body.
James Lovera was an American studio potter from California, known for his well-potted bowls crater-texture and sleek glazes. The simple and restrained forms are influenced by Lovera's travels through Japan. Lovera's work can be found in the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum on Art, Oakland Museum of California, and in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. This is one of his best pieces that I have had in many years. -
