Description
Roland Paris Bronze Ivoroid Praying Bookends Art Deco Iron Marble. The figures are kneeling, praying with an Egyptian, mystic, circus overtone. Remeisisnt of so much of the clever and unique artistic view one finds in the work of Roland Paris. Known for his clowns, jesters and carnival, so much of his work has a rather comic portrait, his point of view. The statues are able to come to life with great detail to face expression, hands position and finger details. Both classic, and cubist not like anything you’ve seen before.
The design and details that have made him a significant artist, representing a unique vision of the Art Deco period. This bronze marble and ivory sculpture is executed with the kind of attention to detail that Roland Paris is known which has contributed to the artists success. Roland Paris (1894-1945) born in Vienna, Austria. He went to Berlin and studied with Henry van der Velde, co-founder of the Bauhaus school. His specialty was humorous, sometimes sad and sometimes satirical bronze and ivory figures, often with exaggerated facial expressions. His works command high prices and are sought after by avid collectors.
A new book by Alberto Shayo (famous author on Art Deco sculptures and the book on Chiparus) has just published a new book showing off the many original and creative ideas from drawings, paintings, sculpture etc. The piece being offered here is represented in this book as part of his body of work. -
