Description
Beautiful original watercolor and gouache on archival paper by the famous American marine artist, Gordon Grant. The artwork depicts two rugged lobstermen bringing their catch ashore with an array of fishing boats in the distant. Perhaps Long Island, New York scene. Signed lower right. Condition is excellent. Gallery mounted and framed. Overall framed 25.5 by 31.5 inches.
Gordon Grant (1875-1962) Born in San Francisco, CA on July 7, 1875. Grant grew up in San Francisco and at age 12 sailed around the Horn to London, England to study art at the Heatherly and Lambeth Schools. Returning to his native city in the 1890s, he was an illustrator for the Examiner. He maintained a studio in NYC at 137 East 66th Street throughout most of his career, but was active in California as a member and exhibitor of the California Printmakers and California Society of Etchers. Grant was the author-illustrator of Ships Under Sail (1941) and The Secret Voyage (1943). He died in NYC on May 7, 1962.
