    Beautifully sculpted from mahogany and finished with a glowing patina, this figure is a superb example of WPA-era sculpture. Raymond Turner was a native of the Midwest, receiving a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1928 to work in Paris he built a showing career sculpting the human figure including a famout, heroic depiction of Christopher Columbus. Turner's works were exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, Detroit Institute of Art, Guggenheim Museum, and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
