Description
Two antique painted porcelain vases
French, c.1880
Height 36cm, width 19cm, depth 16cm
These elegant small-scale vases have been delicately hand-crafted from porcelain. They will look beautiful placed on top of a mantelpiece, pedestal or table, where the beholder can fully appreciate the fine quality of the workmanship.
In their design, the vases are based on a classical amphora shape. They feature waisted necks with flared mouths, which are set on ovoid bodies. Each vase is fitted with two handles which rise from the body to form scrolls either side of the neck. The handles of the vases are mostly white, being only partially decorated with small gilt and green motifs. As such, their whiteness beautifully contrasts with the bodies of the vases, which are intricately painted with stylised pinky-red flowers and foliage. The vases stand on shaped stems and circular feet which are marked on their undersides. -
