Description
Hand-blown glass vase with unique chartreuse, black and taupe murrine by Vittorio Ferro, Murano Italy, 1999 (signed on the bottom “VITTORIO FERRO ‘99”). Born in 1932, Vittorio Ferro was a first rate glass master who spent many years working at Fratelli Toso in the 1950’s and 60’s, blowing some of their most important pieces. He always made his own unique murine. In 1963 he created a collection designed by Renato and Giusto Toso with which he participated in the Murano Glass Exhibition. In 1964 at the XXXII and in 1966 at the XXXIII Venice Biennale, works by him based on a design by Renato Toso were exhibited. In 1969 he won the "Borselle d'Oro" for the original drawings made with traditional techniques. He has received prestigious awards, collaborated with artists and designers, exhibiting in Italy, Japan, the USA. He taught in Finland, Nuutajarvi Glass Factory, and collaborated with the Abate Zanetti School of Glass. Vittorio died at the age of 80 in 2012.
Provenance:
In 2003, Evan Lobel purchased a collection of Vittorio Ferro’s works after meeting him during a visit to Murano. This piece is from that collection. -
