"Mademoiselle" Chair (first edition) made by Ilmari Tapiovaara at the end of the 1950s for Artek. The structure is in black lacquered birch, the bar backrest contrasts with the smooth seat with rounded edges. The manufacturer and designer label is visible under the seat. A reference in modern furniture that has become an icon of Finnish design.
Designer: Ilmari Tapiovaara (1914-1999) is a Finnish designer who contributes to the development of 20th century Scandinavian design. He collaborates with Alvar Aalto and Le Corbusier. The major axes in his designs are on the multi-purpose chair, such as the "Domus" model which was to serve both for a desk and around a table. Now a classic, the "Mademoiselle" armchair in natural or lacquered birch is still produced by Artek.
