Arne Norell Black Leather & Upholstered "Ilona" Sofa, Sweden
-
Description
Swedish born Arne Norell launched his eponymous Møbel AB Arne Norell on a two-acre farm in Småland in 1954. He is considered one of the leading lights of the Scandinavian Modernist movement - always using tradition materials and often creating designs without screws or glue in the Safari vernacular. The Ilona series was designed in 1971 and included lounge chairs and sofas. This 2-seat vision has beautifully stitched black saddle leather and canvas seating that is connected to a black lacquered solid beechwood frame via brass-buckled leather strapping. Newly updated cushions in a soft gray upholstery fabric. Later production by Norell Mobel AB, Sweden.
