Description
A pair of 18 inch floor standing globes by C Smith & Son, each set into a mahogany stand with a turned baluster support and three legs centred on a compass, one globe stating ‘Smith’s Terrestrial Globe containing the whole of the latest discoveries and Geographical Improvements, also the Tracks of the most celebrated Circumnavigators, London C. Smith & Son, 172 Strand’, and the other ‘Smith’s Celestial Globe containing all the principal stars compiled from the Works of Flamstead…..and the Transactions of the Astronomical Society of London, etc, etc.’ London C.S.Smith & Son, 172 Strand.’ the compasses and horizon ring papers replaced. English, circa 1840.
