Robert Baart
American, 1947
Artist Bio: Robert Baart
M Fine Arts is proud to welcome Robert Baart to its roster of contemporary artists. Born in 1947 in Lowell, Massachusetts, Baart’s artistic journey remains deeply connected to his New England heritage.
After graduating from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in 1969, Baart was honored with the Clarissa Bartlett Traveling Scholarship the following year. He later returned to his alma mater, where he dedicated thirty-five years to teaching before retiring in 2009. Throughout his career, he has received numerous grants and accolades, with his work featured in exhibitions and collections across the United States and internationally.
Baart is a keen observer of the natural beauty of the American Northeast. His diverse body of work primarily explores natural landscapes, employing a unique interplay of color, light, and atmosphere that blurs the boundaries between realism and abstraction. This approach conveys his personal connection to the environment while expressing concern for the challenges facing the modern world, alongside a profound spirituality of nature.
Currently, Baart is a member of Fenway Studios, a historic cooperative for Boston artists that has been nurturing creativity since 1905. This esteemed space has housed many of the city’s most notable artists and educators, a legacy that Baart continues to contribute to.
