Angelo Mangiarotti 'Eros' Side Table in Carrara Marble, Italy 1970

Description
Angelo Mangiarotti 'Eros' Side Table in Carrara Marble, Italy 1970.
This sculptural table by Angelo Mangiarotti is a skillful example of postmodern design. The lotus leaf like side table features no joints or clamps and is architectural in its structure. The tables rest on the one cone shaped leg and the construction is gravity-based, where the top 'locks' itself onto the marble cones as a result of the weight of the material. As a result, the entire structure is stabile and strong. This table highlights the period in which a diverse path of material research was carried out by manufacturers and designers. Angelo Mangiarotti continues with his experiments in marble with producer Skipper, creating forms that arise from the studies on the joints and from the characteristics of the material itself.
Angelo Mangiarotti (1921-2012) was an Italian architect and Industrial designer with a reputation to mainly focus on the needs of the users of furniture. His designs are solid and strong and he always used materials that will stand the test of time. Mangiarotti was very precise in using the right material and the right sizing for his designs. -
