NICK MOSS

American, 1985
Nick Moss, hailing from Metamora, Michigan, has crafted a unique artistic path that bridges the realms of upstate New York and New York City. As a self-taught artist, Moss's talent has captured the attention of art enthusiasts and critics alike. He is proudly represented by the prestigious Leila Heller Gallery, which hosted his debut solo exhibition, "Rigorous Perception," in 2018.

Moss's artistic journey is marked by a series of notable achievements and exhibitions. His works have been showcased in several group exhibitions at Leila Heller Gallery, including "Double Vision," curated by Jane Holzer in 2019, "Exemplary Bodies" in 2018, and the gallery's summer group show in 2018. His solo exhibition, "Substitute for Words," made its debut in Aspen, Colorado, at Casterline Goodman Gallery in winter 2019, captivating audiences and later traveling to Nantucket due to its immense success.

Before fully dedicating himself to his artistic endeavors, Moss gained valuable experiences working on an intensive crop farm and with an industrial contracting company. His background in welding and metal fabrication proved invaluable when he relocated to New York in 2007. At Traeger Grills, Moss played a pivotal role in creating, conceptualizing, and developing pellet grills primarily made of steel, showcasing his knack for industrial design and product development.

Moss's artistic process is a testament to his deep-rooted connection with industrial steelwork. His primary medium is raw steel, which he meticulously hand-welds into a canvas, using an array of industrial tools such as blowtorches, MIG welders, and sanding implements. Moss's artistry extends to applying unique patinas directly to the steel, resulting in a mesmerizing array of abstract motifs. His creative arsenal also includes plasma cutting, oxyacetylene torching, water-jet cutting, laser cutting, and two-part clear coating, all of which add layers of depth and texture to his creations.
