Description
£120.00
First edition, published by Jonathan Cape Ltd, 1994.
208 pp with numerous b&w illustrations throughout.
In this volume, Donald McCullin has gathered what he considers to be 200 of his best pictures. He demonstrates that his interests go far beyond the war photography for which he has become famous. The images he has chosen range from landscapes of India to down-and-outs in the East End.Photographs and text by Don McCullin; introduction by Mark Haworth-Booth.
Don McCullm grew up in north London and went to work for a cartoon animation studio in Mayfair before the Observer newspaper bought one of his gangland pictures and set him on the road as a photojournalist. He moved to the Sunday Times, for which he worked for 18 years, and since 1985 has been a freelance photojournalist. His photographs of almost every major conflict in the past thirty years provide some of the most potent visual images of the 20th century. His pictures form part of permanent collections in England and the United States and his many honours and rewards include the Warsaw Gold Medal 1964, the World Press Photographer Award 1964, Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society 1977, Honorary Doctorate at the University of Bradford and in Germany the prestigious Dr Erich Salomon Award. He was awarded the C.B.E. in 1993.
