Description
Brown Westhead Moore and Co Majolica centrepiece vase which features a recumbent lioness with two lion cubs, laying on a bed of leaves. Modelled by famous sculptor Mark V. Marshall whilst he was employed at the BWM factory. Colouration: blue, green, light brown, are predominant. Bears signature, 'MVM' and a pattern number, '30'. Book reference , 'Staffordshire Pottery - Majolica, Transfer Prints, Flow Blue, Fine Bone China from Cauldon' by Robert E. Cluett, front cover and page 47, figure 117. N.B. by design, the vase receptacle is hollow and goes through the piece, rather than being an enclosed container.

KILN EFFECTS: over glazed shrinkage line to the front of the base; inconspicuous over glazed shrinkage lines to the side, more visible to the underside.
