Description
Exceedingly fine George III gentleman's dressing table/Pembroke table attributed to Thomas Chippendale, the richly figured mahogany top with drop leaves, over fully fitted drawer with lidded compartments and having a pull-out dressing mirror, standing on square legs with inner chamfering, with shaped shelf and standing on later brass castors.
The design of this table is a hybrid of two drawings in Thomas Chippendale's The Gentleman & Cabinetmaker's Director, Plates LIII Breakfast Table and LIV Shaving Table. It is, however, more closely related to a breakfast table supplied by Chippendale to Dumfries House and several other dressing tables supplied to Paxton and Nostell Priory.
