Description
A period Rococo writing desk from the 18th century in original painted alder wood with period key hole fittings, circa 1760. There are two smaller drawers behind the writing surface and one large drawer below the desk surface.
The Rococo period followed the Baroque period and is often described as the final expression of the Baroque movement. The period began in the 1720's and continued through 1770. Rococo takes its name from the French word 'rocaille,' which means rock or broken shell. This period was characterized by elaborately carved, smaller and more functional pieces, the cabriole leg, and cherub, fruit, shell, flower, and scroll motifs. -
