Frosted and Etched Cut Glass Leaf Vase/Bowl on Geometric Base by Robert Guenther

This stunning modernist vase was realized by the esteemed artisan Robert Guenter in the United States circa 1990. It features a tiered skyscraper style geometric base consisting of stacked rectilinear forms from which an urn form body ascends- all in a beautiful translucent acqua glass. The surface of the glass is etched with stylized acanthus detailing, while the top of the vase offers jagged serrated detailing where the leaves extend beyond the upper edge. This piece artfully combines various periods and historical motifs into a single postmodern object, fusing the skyscraper forms of Art Deco with the foliate detailing and urn form silhouette of Greek classicism (or neoclassicism). The result is a piece that is altogether compelling, gorgeous and versatile. It would be a winning addition to any style of interior from classic Mid Century Modern to contemporary. it is signed Robert Guenther and is in excellent vintage condition.
