Description
Pharmacy Interest A Very Rare And very large Bronze Mortar.
Still on its original cast iron and wood stand.
The mortar signed and stamped L.E. Maritz = Louis Ernest Maritz (1774-1851) The Hague The Netherlands.
L.E.Maritz was national gunsmith and cannon founder for the central government.
His foundry was also making other products and they had a companionship with the iron foundry of L.I. Enthoven & Co.
The iron stand is not marked but attributed to Enthoven.
In 1848 the company name Maritz changed to Enthoven & Co.
The mortar with bronze pestle.
Measurements of the mortar are 24.5cm high 31cm diameter the total height including stand is 61cm, the weight of the bronze mortar 38.5kg, cast in one piece.
Dutch circa 1825
In wonderful original used condition not cracked or repaired, with beautiful patination. -
