Description
Jorge Zalszupin’s iconic “Carrinho de Cha” bar cart is made with Brazilian rosewood (also known as jacaranda) and features an iron frame and brass wheels. The wood has been expertly refinished and the iron and brass has been repolished to ensure that the piece is in excellent condition. The bar cart also consists of two levels, with a removable tray on the top level and the L’Atelier manufacturing label underneath the lower level. A beautiful piece like this would be a perfect addition to any styled home.
Jorge Zalszupin (1922-2020) was born in Warsaw, Poland and studied architecture at Bucharest’s Ecole des Beaux Arts. While working as an architect in Paris, he found inspiration from Oscar Niemeyer and Roberto Burle Marx, and immigrated to Brazil. His work as an architect created a demand for decoration and furniture proposals that suited the style of his projects. Eventually in November of 1959, he established his own company called L'Atelier. He excelled in working with various materials, such as travertine marble, slung leather, and exquisite woods like Brazilian rosewood (jacaranda). Zalszupin's contribution to Brazilian modernism lies in his consistently sleek and elegant creations, utilizing the vibrant grains of tropical hardwoods abundant in the region.
