Description
Peter Michael Adams, Mid-Century, Sculptural Coffee Table, Walnut, USA, 1970s
A rare and important coffee / cocktail table branded with the initials PMA. The wildly sculptural base supporting a pegged removable table top in a boomerang form. This item is in very good original condition.
Peter Micheal Adams’ (1946, US) work as a furniture designer and sculptor is specialized on the material wood. Graduating from Harvard, he then followed an apprenticeship of fine furniture making in North Carolina. In 1984 he was called to the University of Arts in Tasmania, Australia where he lived and worked from that time onward. He owns a property which he calls Windgrove. Here he lives and works surrounded by nature. The connection between human and nature always played a key role in his oeuvres. Adams always handcrafts the pieces himself and takes great effort and time on each piece. Great role plays a big series of benches. As he says in his own words: “A bench is for two people. It allows dialogue.” Nowadays he focuses on sculptural items in different wood species combined with natural stones.
