Description
A superb late Victorian tortoiseshell and silver piqué desk blotter, of shaped rectangular form with a central piqué design of a floral sunburst within an oval of pendant garlands with further scrolls, garlands above and below, flanked by two tied bows securing looped garlands supporting a musical instruments, applied with silver ribbon and rosette swags and bellflower borders. English, circa 1880.
Piqué work is identified by the presence of metals, usually gold and silver, set into materials such as tortoiseshell or ivory. A CITES licence will be supplied for any item being exported from the UK. -
