Ronald D. Russon Artist Bio

Ronald D. Russon was born and raised in the picturesque rural landscape just south of Salt Lake City, Utah, surrounded by the stunning Wasatch Mountains and expansive farmlands. Growing up in a family of five boys in an agrarian community, hard work was ingrained in him from an early age. Known as "those Russon boys," Ron and his brother often lent a hand to neighbors, tackling various labor-intensive tasks, from shoveling to moving pianos—his count currently stands at around 37.
When not working, Ron found solace in fishing, hiking, and drawing. Whether playing the "squiggle game" during family gatherings or doodling in class, art was a constant presence in his life. After enrolling at Utah Valley Community College, a basic drawing class sparked a deeper interest in art, leading him to pursue an Illustration Design program at Brigham Young University.
A life-changing car accident left him with a broken neck but didn't deter his artistic journey. After recovering, he returned to school and completed an internship at Illustration House in New York City, studying under several renowned illustrators.
Transitioning to freelance illustration, Ron eventually felt the pull of his rural roots. Today, he creates evocative oil paintings, employing a loose brush and palette knife to capture scenes that range from tranquil tractors resting in sunlit fields to vibrant, abstract bison compositions. His work reflects a deep connection to nature, communicating his love for the outdoors through a blend of abstraction and realism.
