A REGENCY PERIOD KINGWOOD GAMES TABLE

Description
A fine Regency period kingwood games table with ormolu mounts in the manner of Gillows of Lancaster, the rounded rectangular top with pierced galleried sections flanking a central reversible games surface enclosing a chessboard and backgammon-well, all raised on down swept legs with spindle supports and ending in brass castors.
Provenance, Crowe Hall, Bath
Literature: The spindle-lyre trestles relate to a pattern in the 1818 “Estimate Sketch Book of Gillows of London and Lancaster”. See also “Gillows of Lancaster and London” Bt Susan E. Stuart, Vol 1, Page 301, plate 329 which illustrates a similar form table. -
