Ruined Wall at Paliochora 1994

$ 15,000
  • Description
    George Tzannes is an American painter of Greek origins. In his twenties he visited Kythera, the Greek island of his father's birth. Since that time, Greece and the island of Kythera has become the major reference of his creativity.
    The focus of this artwork is a subject very dear to Tzannes: the timeless, spiritual quality of ancient ruins. The beautiful stone-wall, so up-close and almost tangible, is invested of an iconic and monumental stature that transcend the subject. The fragment of blue sky piercing above the wall connects the subject to nature and and it gives it a more tangible dimension. The gentle blue light pervading everything creates the sensation of fresh air all around. The realistic rendering of the subject slowly makes the visual experience almost physical, as if the viewer could step into the painting, touch the wall and become part of history by doing so.
