Description
Rare and Unusual Bow-Front Paint-Decorated Box
New England, probably Boston area, ca. 1820.
Interior lined with newspaper, “American Cabinet and Boston Atheneum, Boston, Saturday, June 17, 1848”.
Pine, grain painted surface.
Untouched original condition, minor wear.
The unusual form is enhanced with the bold patterns of grain paint, appearing to look like figured mahogany, while surrounded with painted faux-inlaid banding at the base.
