George Sotter has become recognized as one of the most popular Pennsylvania Impressionist artists. He is best known for capturing an atmosphere of fantasy and nostalgia in night scenes and landscapes. Sotter’s marine paintings were most likely inspired by Edward Redfield whom he spent time with in Boothbay Harbor, Maine in 1902. This rocky shoreline in Maine was probably painted around this time. -
