Antique Handmade Persian Afshar Carpet, Magnificent, Tribal, 5'8" x 9'5", blue back ground field color, directional geometric designed of repeated Botteh in multi colors, woven pile natural dyed soft and fine wool, the two ends consist of flat weave kilim.
Origin: Southwest Persia.
Period: circa 1880.
Materials: Wool pile, wool warp and weft.
Condition: Very good minor restorations. All sides and ends are original.
Antique Afshar rugs, produced by nomads and villagers in southeastern Iran in the cities of Shiraz, Kerman and Yazd.
The name Afshar derives from the tribe who designs and creates these rugs This tribe is originally from Turkey and Turkmen Confederation, includes 24 other tribes. In the 16th century.
Afshar rugs are similar to antique Caucasian rugs in their rug colors and styles.
Afshar rugs are quite distinguishable. Classic features of these antique rugs can include three pendants at either of the two ends (mostly in Sirjan designs), multiple diamond patterns (the number of diamonds can vary within a motif) and the tribal border. -
