Description
A charmingly patinated solid walnut buffet, exhibiting French Empire flair tempered by Louis Philippe, circa 1860. The simple plank top is held with visible tongue & groove joinery, marked by a variety of knots in the wood and two centuries of use imprinted upon the surface. A single, long frieze drawer below is free of hardware and uses carved grooves below the drawer front to open. Two paneled doors enclose the case below: the left door hooks onto the interior shelf and the right door uses an original lock & key. One key included. Inside is a stationary shelf, 17 ⅜” deep. In classic Empire style, the front of the case is bookended with pilasters to the left and right that are carved in low relief, tapering down to the thick posts as feet. As a hybrid of two historic design periods, the timeless style of this antique case piece would work well with almost any interior. Make sure to view the detailed images to get a closer look at the great patina and wonderful craftsmanship. Cleaned and polished with a French paste wax, ready for your interior.
