Early 20th Century French Wicker Grape Harvesting Basket
-
Description
authentic French grape harvesting basket from the 1940s, sourced from the vineyards of Champagne. Handwoven from sturdy willow, this generously sized basket features a distinctive twisted rim and reinforced handles designed for durability in the field during the demanding vendange (grape harvest).
What sets this piece apart is the original green painted markings—likely the initials or domain code of the vineyard owner—still clearly visible on one side. Additional green accents are woven into the rim, adding a subtle but vibrant contrast against the naturally weathered willow.
With its sculptural form and honest, utilitarian beauty, this basket serves as both a decorative accent and a functional storage solution. Ideal for holding firewood, towels, toys, or as a centerpiece in a wine cellar, mudroom, or garden space. -
