French 19th Century Gold Gilt Mirror
-
Description
Wonderful 19th century French gold gilt mirror, the thin frame is dense with texture and pattern to brighten up any room. Subtle fleur-de-lis carved motifs wrap around the molding in alternating orientation pointed up or down; the floral elements are bookended with elegant scrolled carvings over the background of crosshatched effect. Red bole adds further dimension to the frame, peeking through the areas of loss to the gilding. Dentil molding on the interior surrounds the (likely) original mirror plate that shows no obvious areas of foxing or crystals. There is one small scratch and faint black wisp toward the bottom edge.
