Kurt Herrmann
American, 1972
Kurt Herrmann is an artist whose work spans both abstraction and figuration, though his true foundation lies in color. Whether his paintings boom across a room or murmur gently to a close observer, his goal is to create a dialogue between bold energy and quiet reflection. His use of color, shape, and form is deeply personal—drawn from memory, daily life in rural Pennsylvania, and imagined journeys to far-off places. Elements like tree trunks, the glow of winter skies, flashes of deer legs, the pink of watermelon flesh, and distant Greek islands often find their way into his work. “Color, silence, space, seasons, and the land—those things drive everything I do,” he says. “They’re impossible to ignore.”
Originally from the mountains of Lock Haven, Pennsylvania—where he still lives and works—Herrmann earned his BFA from Lock Haven University. His paintings have been exhibited internationally, including recent appearances at Scope Miami Beach (FL), Penny Contemporary (Australia), The Other Art Fair (Australia), and 12 Gallery (New Zealand). His work has also been shown at Sidewinder Gallery (IL), highlighted by Time Out Chicago, and James Oliver Gallery (PA), featured in the Philadelphia Inquirer.
