Luigi Caccia Dominioni, "Monachella" floor lamp, 1950s
Painted aluminum, chromium-plated metal, painted metal.
47 1/2 in. (121 cm) high (shade placement is adjustable.)
Shade: 6 7/8 in. (17.5 cm) at widest section
Manufactured by Azucena, Milan, Italy.
This is a period example of a lamp design that Dominioni created in 1953, while working on a residence for the Convent and Institute of the Beata Vergine Addolorata in Milan. Named "Monachella" ("little nun"), its shade is suggestive of a nun's veil. -
