Square Mother-of-Pearl Inlaid Box Shield Mount English, circa 1880

$ 750
  • Description
    A small English square-form box with mother-of-pearl veneer arranged in a diamond parquetry pattern. The gently chamfered lid is mounted with a small silver escutcheon, typically reserved for personalization, though never engraved. The box opens with a push-button mechanism to reveal a deep amethyst-colored velvet-lined interior. Hinges and fittings are brass, and the lid closes cleanly. Likely intended as a pin or ring box during the Victorian period. The geometric inlay, combined with the iridescent nacre, reflects the era’s interest in surface ornament and personal luxury objects. English, circa 1880.
