Arthur Smith

1972
Arthur Smith was an American jewelry designer and manufacturer who was active during the mid-20th century. He was known for his unique and innovative designs, which often incorporated colorful gemstones and precious metals.

Smith began his career in the jewelry industry as a salesman for a jewelry supply company, but he soon discovered his passion for designing and creating his own jewelry. In 1948, he opened his own jewelry company, Arthur Smith, Inc., in Providence, Rhode Island. Smith's designs quickly gained popularity, and he became known for his use of unusual gemstones and his intricate metalwork.

In the 1950s and 1960s, Smith's jewelry was sold in high-end department stores such as Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman. He also created custom pieces for many high-profile clients, including First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy and actress Audrey Hepburn.

Smith's jewelry designs were often inspired by nature, and he was particularly known for his use of colorful enamel and textured gold in his creations. He retired in the 1980s, but his legacy lives on through his unique and timeless designs, which are still highly sought after by collectors and jewelry enthusiasts.
