Description
This lovely pair of Art Deco side chairs perfectly embodies the timeless appeal of Deco period furniture. Ideal in a bedroom or parlor, the chairs have a modern silhouette of round upholstered seats contrasted by curved wooden backs, reminiscent of classic Deco designs like the tulip armchair or cockpit seat. The seat backs are finished in a gorgeous veneer of Macassar ebony, an Asian hardwood known for its dense wood grain and unique patterning of light and dark stripes. The back rests rise to mid-back and descend to the footed base, designed with a wingback shape and three oblong cutouts that follow the chair's curved contours. The cushioned seat is upholstered in coral silk and has a cylindrical form that narrows slightly towards the circular, concave base. Simple piping in matching silk rings the cushion horizontally for a tufted appearance that mirrors the lines drawn above.
From the collection of Frances and Gary Comer. Some restoration to ebony veneer.
