Description
A beautiful and well preserved rattan and bent bamboo daybed, Italian manufacture, 1960s
Dreams of distant lands, coastal landscapes, and summer beaches are gently evoked by the charm of this daybed crafted from bamboo and woven rattan. Beyond its evocative aura, the construction and design details also captivate the observer: the bent malacca frame forms elegant curves with apparent ease, while the intricately woven backrests highlight the artisanal craftsmanship behind its creation.
The unmistakable elegance of this piece stems from the careful interplay of linear and curved surfaces, solids and voids, that define the design of this Italian-made daybed from the 1960s. Rattan, wicker, and other natural fibres require traditional skills to be properly shaped—an expertise that, when combined with Italian design, gives rise to unique and unrepeatable objects.
These same skills were proudly employed in the professional restoration of this piece, now offered with a new, soft mattress upholstered in high-quality velvet. Two round cushions, highly decorative, enhance the comfort of the dreamer lying on it.
