This pair of circa 1920 English recumbent lions is crafted from weathered concrete with finely detailed features, from flowing manes and curled tails to expressive, carved faces and powerful paws. Measuring 13" W x 26" D x 23" H each, one lion faces left and the other right, creating a balanced display indoors or out. Inspired by ancient guardian sculptures from Mesopotamia to Rome, recumbent lions became a hallmark of British and French garden design by the 18th century. Symbolizing quiet strength and protection, these statues were traditionally placed at grand entrances. Durable and beautifully aged, they bring historic character and timeless elegance to any space. Wear consistent with age and use.
