Description
Victorian Woolwork Embroidered Picture of a Tiger. The embroidery is worked in wool on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches. Pictorial scene of a Tiger in a tropical landscape. This embroidery is inspired by a famous print entitled Tyger, by James Northcote (1746–1831). Framed in an old rosewood veneer frame with glass. Mounting: The sampler is tacked to a wood stretcher frame. Frame backed with chipboard.. Dimensions exclude the frame and slip.

Period: 19th Century Condition: Good. No holes. No stains. Minor stitch losses to the ground. Slight sagging and loose threads above tiger's head and shoulders. Ground repaired in this area. Otherwise, neatly and evenly stretched. Frame has had some repairs to missing veneer. Creation Date: 1880 Styles / Movements: Traditional Dealer Reference #: 22381-2 Incollect Reference #: 809605
