Description
Valentin Janscheck (1867-1947)
Lived/Active; Austria
Nude on a Couch, ca. 1890-1900
Signed (u.l.): Janscheck
Oil on canvas
13 ½” x 17 ¾”, 20” x 24 ¼” with frame.
Over-all in excellent condition, solid walnut frame.
Provenance: Le Passage, Paris, France; Private Collection
Although not much is known about Valentin Janscheck, this portrait of a nude reclined on a sofa has a wonderful painterly quality. The soft, lured lines and contrast of light shows the talents of a tonalist painter. The depiction of a nude woman is a delightful subject matter.
