Fragmented Equine — Italian Sculptural Horse, 1980s
-
Description
Italian sculpture from the 1980s depicting a horse in motion, executed in a fragmented and deconstructed form. Cast in patinated bronze or composite material with a weathered verdigris finish, the piece captures both classical anatomy and modern abstraction. Sections of the horse's torso are intentionally ruptured or hollowed, revealing an expressive tension between strength and decay. Raised on twin iron rods anchored to a travertine or stone base, the work recalls Arte Povera and Brutalist influences, while paying homage to ancient equine statuary.
