Description
A splendid painting dated 1866 and signed Ed. Hamman, attributed to the great Belgian painter Edouard Jean Conrad Hamman (1819-1888). Specializing in historical scenes, with a particular interest in court ceremonies, his style is characterized by the historical accuracy of his costumes and furnishings. Many of his works were commissioned directly by Napoleon III and Victor Emmanuel II to celebrate their ancestors and thus legitimize their power.
