Japonesque mixed metal sterling silver bowl. Made by Whiting Mfg. Co. in New York, ca 1885. Rectangular with straight sides; bamboo-stalk rim and corner supports. On sides, applied and engraved leafing bamboo branches. Also applied are two crabs with pincers hooked over the rim. Modish exoticism and rare form. Fully marked including maker’s stamp and no. 858A. Very good condition.
